June was a very busy month – getting into routine with kids home for summer, family vacation, my son’s birthday, in addition to all of the projects I have posted about last month. Here are some of my favorite parts of life in June:
A trip to the beach
My family and I spent a week on Isle of Palms in South Carolina, about 20 minutes outside of Charleston. We rented a beach house with my parents and sisters’ families. The kids had a blast spending a week playing in the ocean, and we loved being able to hop into Charleston – such great restaurants, art galleries and interesting history. This is our 4th trip to the Charleston area – we find ourselves heading there every other year. Clearly, we love it there!
I spent some time experimenting with different shibori dyeing techniques on canvas. It is so fun to see how they turn out. The clothespin piece above was one of my favorites. I am hoping to share the results with you later this week!
My little boy turned 5 in June and we celebrated with a cake and lots of balloons. I love this photo of him decorating his cake — so intent! (He wanted a cake that looked like the Lonely Mountain from the book “The Hobbit.” Our recent bedtime read.)
Monogram Zipper Pouches
I love how these monogrammed zipper pouches turned out! Gold Foiling and freezer paper stenciling. These are samples for a class I will be teaching at a local stationary store later in the summer. I have had a lot of fun planning this project.
It has been our summer for swarms of cicadas in the neighborhood. While I cannot profess to love them, my kids sure do! We spent lots of time in June learning about their 17 year life cycle, collecting buckets of their shells, and keeping them as “pets.”
Stars and Stripes Stamped Bag
This is probably my favorite process photo I took this month. I had a lot of fun making this bag and loved how it turned out. You can check out more bag photos in my Stars and Stripes Bag Tutorial post.
June was a great month and July already flying by. Before I know it, summer will be over!
